Record 78 Million Sockeye Run
SHOP BRISTOL BAY SOCKEYE

This year's Bristol Bay sockeye salmon run was a natural abundance of epic proportions, with a record 78 Million fish returning to the rivers.  It was also a record-setting season for Bristol Bay fishermen!

According to scientists, it's the largest run in over 500 years. If 78 million wild sockeye salmon were arranged nose-to-tail, it would extend for 29,000 miles - enough to encircle the entire planet.

Even better, this harvest occurred with the escapement goal met… the number of sockeye allowed to proceed up the river to spawn, preventing overfishing and ensuring the health of next year's run.

Cheers to the fishermen, and everyone else who relies on a healthy harvest to fill their freezers, cans and smokehouses. And a special shout-out to all the people who work to ensure that the Sockeye continue to thrive for years to come.
